Thought I'd update you on my very recent wardrobe purchases.... I've been naughty. I'm getting like really obsessed with shopping online. BAD HABIT!! My excuses are run along the likes of "there's an insane heatwave here during winter", "i don't have a summer wardrobe", "everything's old"... you know. The usual.

Check out the fruity goodness that a credit card can get you. Hey, you can't stop this girl. Especially when Topshop now dispatch to Australia. Ohhhh yehhh! Now, let's just pray it fits and looks nice on! That's the risk you've got to take....

Ebay purchases

I bought these bad boys on ebay. CAN'T freaking wait to get them. Pray that they fit.

Finally I've found a pair of vintage boots!! I've been on the search for a while now and was well convinced on purchasing a pair of dc martens but i hope these do the trick.

And yes, I've succumb to the fad that is denim jackets ... so I purchased this old Levi's one on ebay for $1 (+$10 postage - that's where they get ya) this one:

I know it's a little ugly but I think I will make it into a vest by taking off the sleeves and putting some texture through it by rubbing it with sandpaper to it to rough it up - perhaps use some bleach to add further detail. Any ideas are welcome :)

I walked past the Elio Moda shop in Brisbane City and literally found love in the form of a beautiful pair of black suede lattice booties. The photo totally doesn't do it justice.

And an added perk - these shoes are by Australian designer Natsui. RRP $300. I can't afford them :( And although they are my love and the most perfect pair of heels i've ever seen, I'm going to resist, be a good girl, and hold back on this potentially lethal purchase.

Uni is over for the semester!! Sorry I've been away guys :( I've had little sleep and my back is aching from poorly sitting at my desk trying to finish my final design project. It was a big one I'm not gonna lie. Anyway, cutting a long story short - I'd rather be in France...

Yes finally, comfy is in! So I like these shoes that are unusually cute - probably a few hundred dollars but I still want a pair. I'd figure out a way to wear them.

Did I tell you I'm obsessed with scarves? Surely I would've? I have the biggest collection. I think in total there are about 25.... I have vintage scarves, new scarves, friends scarves, silk scarves, wool scarves. Scarves from Paris, Manchester, Madrid, Brisbane, Hong Kong and Thailand. Some of the high street labels include Oroton, Sportscraft and Diane Von Furtensburg. The list could go on. So without further ado I will show you these many scarves.

I really want some lacey tights. They're such a cute way to add texture to an outfit this season and vastly gaining popularity. But I have an issue with paying a shit load for them considering they look so delicate and therefore get a run after an hour of wearing! The ones I've seen go up to $80 a pair and that's not even for a brand I am familiar with... So i'm on the hunt (feel free to make suggestions) for a nice, well priced pair of lace tights.

So... incase you haven't noticed I'm kinda immersing myself in all things French! Not just because I (deep down I don't like admitting this because some of the people were really damn rude) like Paris.... But I want to work there one day and so I've enrolled in a course to learn the language, downloaded a heap of podcasts, bought the album "So Frenchy, So Chic". Getting right into it no? And also the other day I watched this most gorgeous French movie called Vénus beauté (institut) with Audry Tautou. Ohhh she's so adorable!! I love her innocence in this film she was such a sweet character.

In light of this I have embarked to know more about Mademoiselle Tautou. She's just so gorgeous - she has a real classic beauty about her that I can't say I see in many actors these days.

Why can't we have this sort of selection in Australia? The sheer amount of vintage clothes in Paris is incredible. And it's not just crappy second hand clothes we regularly see here in Oz, but it's the real deal - good quality vintage. I was very fortunate to be able to check it out while I was there but it was at the end of my trip and my bags were overloaded and credit card maxed... I couldn't purchase anymore :( ...Although I did get 3 scarfs they're easy to pack.

When we went to Paris we found this gorgeous little vintage market that had a huge selection of these amazing hats! WHY DID I NOT PURCHASE A HAT??? That's right. We didn't get one. I feel like an idiot. They were so special. I'll have to get one when I'm back there.... One day.

Once again staring into the window of my favourite shop waiting for my morning latte, I spot another beautiful piece of jewellery. Violent Green never fails to impress me with their intriguing designers found within their incredibly trendy store. This time I've discovered a beautiful jewellery collection by Sydney born designer Jordan Askill who is now based in Paris. The "Jordy" collection of delicate heart rings in gold and white gold is simply perfect. It caught my eye and I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time before I decide I want one of these rings on one of my little fingers. Although I'm rapidly adding to my jewellery collection it's scary - 2 rings and a "T" pendant in 2 weeks! Oh well what's one more? A girl needs choice!

Cheap Mondays

I bought myself 2 pairs of Cheap Mondays while in Melbourne. Size 25 in the light semi acid wash and 26 in the dark denim. Yes one of the legs on the lighter jeans was slightly longer than the other and yes the stitching has already come loose on the Cheap Monday's logo patch on the darks but I still love them. They are so damn comfortable and feel like leggings. And the were $90. I will consider taking the sewing machine to both to fix their faults but... it possibly adds character?

Oh AND I found out that you never need to wash your jeans - just chuck them in a freezer bag and in the freezer for a few hours and the bacteria is killed thus making your jeans cold and fresh again. Neat right?

I walked past Violent Green (Elizabeth St Arcade, Brisbane City) this morning while getting my Campos Coffee (the best in Oz!) and was instantly drawn to the cutest little ring in their window. It was an immediate connection. I was in love. Unfortunately the shop was closed but in my lunch break I went back to suss it out the price. So I'm going to Melbourne next week to visit my darling friend whose birthday it is soon to be. She reminded me of this great boutique she shops in and a spark lit up in my brain. I stumbled across this cool little "Very Melbourne" boutique Fat when I was in Melbourne a couple of years ago while exploring the old GPO there. They stock a good range contemporary Australian designers showcasing some great basics tees by Bassike through to quirky Romance Was Born ponchos. They sell clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery, gadgets... and lots of ecceltic finds. Oh and I saw on their online store that they stock miss Vivienne Westwood plastic shoes as well! These guys are definitely in the know.

Ok so ....I stumbled across Melbourne brand I heard they eat cigarettes when I was stalking around Facebook one fair afternoon. I found their fan group where they've uploaded some of their Winter 09 collection and instantly fell "in like" with them. I wouldn't say "in love" because to say that would mean something pretty out of this world. It would be a very big deal for me and I'm not yet willing to say it... Anyway, see what you think! I like the AW 09 collection by Australian designer Claude Maus... It reminds me of Amsterdam style because the pants are very popular over there in The Netherlands. The look is quite European. Usually I wouldn't go for something like this, but the outfits work well. They're enhanced through the use of monotone and black on black - very popular this season. The leather skinny's are pretty sweet also.

I was looking around for jeans today. I didn't care what I was to spend - I live in jeans. I don't need to wear corporate clothes to work - the convenience of working in the design industry. I tried on Nudies (SO popular right now) but they just didn't fit right and I was overly excited to be an 8). It was a complicated feeling - although I wasn't going to let that force me into getting them. The shop assistant was a dick too. Perhaps I didn't look cool /rich enough to be wearing them... Oh well they were $240 which I could afford but he's going to get his money elsewhere!

I went down to this boutique (Blonde Venus, Fortitude Valley) that I haven't shopped in before. I've always walked past and been a bit intimidated to go in. The clothes are expensive to say the least. Anyway, I found the last pair of black high waisted skinny's they had by a brand called Dr. Denim Jeans Makers It is SO COOL! The fit was quite good and the price a very reasonable $125. All the way from Sweden too.

One in particular - fashion designer, winner of Australia Project Runway 2008 Julie Grbac - is well worth mentioning. Firstly she's just so damn cute. Secondly, her designs are beautiful. I love the way she folds fabric to create such intriguing pieces. Thirdly... Well you just need to check her out!

One of the things that reminds me most of England is the brand Diesel. I don't know specifically why but I guess I just saw it quite a bit. Working in a design firm exposes it more - they're really keen on Diesel jeans and wear them a fair bit...

I remember walking into Covent Gardens Diesel shop and just loving it. The shop fit out was impressive - there was a lot of timber and a spiral staircase lined with mirrors, some cool lighting and warm colours. It reminded me a bit of a farm house. I love Diesels urban street style. They have a lot of stylish pieces that last over the seasons. Anyway, so their Black Gold Fall 09 RTW collection rocks. (Oh yeh, and it's a little grunge - another reason why I'm drawn to it.)

I had the coolest outfit on today (if I do say so myself) ... I unfortunately didn't get a photo but I can try describe it to you...
- slightly faded black skinny jeans
- 1980s vintage cream loose vest-top, lace on front panels, capped sleeves, gold and cream buttons
- simple black leather biker vest
- black leather Mollini slim and short biker looking boots over jeans
- various leather bracelets and wrist trinkets, black stud earrings, two gold rings

It is my most favourite outfit thus far.... Oh and I got my bangs chopped back in (hair not redone thus bad regrowth). I had a few odd looks from my co-workers.... I guess I'm probably one of the more casual dressers of the office... I'm a regular jeans wearer. Either that or they don't quite fancy the new hair...

There is something to be said about a nice crisp, white collared shirt... preferably with a little bit of detail. I love wearing them over jeans, tucked in with a cute belt or left out falling over my hips. Sometimes I add a brooch for interest or a silk scarf for colour. I love this One Teaspoon shirt (actually a shirt dress to be precise) above. It has a mens style and it's very sexy.

OSCAR FEVER. Wow. I watched the red carpet on E! this morning and was impressed by many a dress. Suprised that Miley picked something so elegant wearing Zuhair Murad. I was disappointed with Jessica Beil's sculpted puffy Prada piece. Frieda Pinto looked just lovely in blue Valentino. Amanda Seyfried's jewellery and shoes matched but her brick red Valentino gown looked too big and swallowed her up. Well that's all for me. I turned it off after watching Robert Pattinson interview with Ryan Seacrest (twice).

I'dnever heard of the designer Monique Lhuillier until I stumbled across her while browsing through Grazia but her work caught my eye instantly and well was I impressed. She has the "wow" factor. Her Ready-To-Wear collection for AW 09 /10 is simply stunning. Her garments are elegant in style and not one through this collection makes me think otherwise. She creates more than just a pretty evening dress - she works texture into her designs through layering beautiful fabric and overlaying intricate detail with pearls, lace and crystals. Take a look.

It appears vest are making a come back here. Mostly in the form of crocheted, lacy numbers selling at stupid prices. I was lucky enough to pick up the cutest Pepe Jeans vest in London (Carnaby Lane off Regent Street to be precise). It's loose, cropped and grey-blue with metal bits on the shoulders.

So I was looking through the Pepe Jeans (my new favourite brand) ladies lookbook on their website and loved pretty much everything I saw. Except for the cropped pants with the long crutch - in the Netherlands you could get away with this. Not in Australia. So here are my three favourite outfits for Spring '09. Boot / Sneaker

Oh why can't the weather be colder here? I'm so over the heat, the humidity and the sun. I would like some shady and cold days please. Someone tell the weather man. Now for these...

If the weather was cooler I could wear boots. My Nike space boots (as seen in the previous post), my soft-core military boots (they're not proper but they are lace up and therefore I think they're a little military in style), my high top ons (sneakers but really canvas boots right? it's still too hot to wear these) and my Mollini leather slim space boots. I want these boots to add to my ever-growing collection that I know can only wear perhaps 1 month of the year.

While shopping today I refrained form purchasing a pair of grungy and fatter looking cons-but-not-cons style boots. I don't think they'd work in my town. In London I wouldn't double take at these but here unfortunately I must. Anyway, I found these while looking through NotCouture one of my all time favourite blogs. I LOVE these Lanvin sneaker boots and I WANT these sneaker boots.

I love my space boots (pictured above in all their silver glory). They are the coolest shoes I've ever owned. They don't sell them in Australia and I'm stoked to have them. DVF & The City

I just watched The City on MTV. It's like a side series of The Hills Whitney who is now working for Diane Von Furtensburg. The show is full of New York's socialites and beautiful people. Jay, Whitney's love interest is like.... wow. He's incredibly beautiful. And he's also an Australian!! I think I've come to the conclusion that only beautiful people exist on TV. I don't think it's possible to find them in real life.

Anyway enough of my complaining about beautiful people. I was lucky enough to find a DVF scarf in the vintage markets in Paris. 5 Euros. What a score. Rather wish I'd found this number for that much. Check out this dress by DVF which I just saw walk the catwalk on The City. HOT.

Pendant

When I was overseas I made it priority to get a leather bracelet or silver pendant in each country I was in. I now have a lovely little collection of pieces I've collected across the globe. I'm back home now but I want to keep adding. Layering necklaces and bracelets is one of my new favourite ways to accessorize outfits.

Check out this robot pendant by Karen Walker ($190). I'm definitely in love with her collection of silver necklaces. Any piece will do but this robot is seriously cool.

Being in the UK and Europe for Autumn / Winter 08 before the cold seasons hit Australia has its perks. Pretty much all the trends over there for their previous season has made it's way down under and is surfacing to take over stores nationwide.

Remembering The Music.

In lue of my much anticipated second time checking out the band The Music live I’m reminiscing while listening to their latest album “Drugs”. This is just one of my very British experiences – one I’ll never forget...

I saw The Music live in Manchester for 5 pounds late last year at a “secret gig” – it wasn’t announced on their latest tour and kick started the hype about the new album. It was incredible and was one of the best live gigs I’ve ever been to. It was in the basement pub of this old building up a back street in Manchesters grungy city centre. I could touch the black ceiling with my hands as I watched, sang and took it all in. It was a cold 7 degrees outside and 40 inside – the atmosphere was thrilling. I was completely drenched by the sweat from the people packed into this tight venue – the bar was only 10 metres behind me. The whole crowd was moshing as The Music intensified. It was one of the most amazing live shows I’ve ever seen. Mancunians are passionate about their music and their gritty city – it was the perfect venue for this very Northern, English rock band.

Summer in Australia equals hot, humid and always sunny! If you're up north expect afternoon storms. Anyway, I was looking for a cute little summer dress online but found these rubber sandals instead. Usually I would shun any form of rubber shoe like this (Crocs ruined it for me) but these are so cute, sleek and look very comfortable - perfect for summer and no problem if caught in an afternoon shower! On sale for 75 pounds online at Marni. Unfortunately they don't have an online Australian store so I chose the UK one instead. Get a friend to post them down?

Ray Ban I love you

The 80s also saw Mr Ray Ban in a big way. Although designed in 1952, it wasn't until the 80s that the Wayfarers gained mass popularity - people started rockin the look after they were worn in the movie The Blues Brothers. Ray Ban must've been doing something right when he produced these sunnies that were originally designed for pilots yet loved by all (ok maybe not all, but most - or at least the kids interested enough in looking the part).

The Ray Ban Aviator's also gained a following... well, I don't know how trendy my folks and their friends were but they seemed to be wearing them. I think I want a pair. I'm feeling a little bit sentimental.

Terribly sorry that my blog has been in limbo for a while... I've started my European trek and have lack of access to computers and such. I chose not to bring my laptop abroad (some may think I'm silly but why would I want to waste my time on the internet when I can be exploring a city).

Anyway so I have found some FANTASTIC places in Madrid, Spain. Places that only locals really know and that tourists don't come across. It helps when you're staying with locals.

Rastro Market (Embajordes) is ace for anything leather, jewellery, hippy clothes, scarfs, hats, general accessories and a bunch of other random things. Watch your bag - this place is a thieves playground. Sundays only - get involved.

Sherlock Holmes

I'm MEGA excited as today I found out that Guy Richie's Sherlock Holmes was being filmed literally just around the corner from my work. How good. I spoke to one of the paparazzi outside wondering what all the fuss was about and he told me. Brilliant? YES! He was waiting for Robert Downey Jr to get into his car... Stupid me didn't stay to watch it. I had my camera ready but felt bad and put it away... So I have some famous people in my area of Manchester (in case you were curious their set is just off Lever Street near Piccadilly Square) including Guy Richie, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Robert Downy Jr. Seriously cool indeed.

I wonder if Manchester will now see a whole lot of 1900s style fashion become in vogue? Hmmm they do have the weather for it.

Anyway so while reading white lightening this morning and seeing her update on GG i thoguht i'd do a bit of a trawl through CW's GG image library. I found the above. I bought this cute bag for £1 at the local second hand store. The shop assistant felt bad that the strap had come off and said she'd give it to me cheaper (the shop sells everything for £3). I stitched it up with navy thread to add some "character detailing". Now considering adding a bow or something... Anyway I was very happy with this purchase as at Pop Boutique just up the road they were selling literally the exact same bag for over £20. How good.

Steve Shanyaski you're so hot. I'm just gonna put it out there. God I have a weakness for men in fitted jeans, funky shoes, British accents and longish hair... especially Mancunians. They've got it goin' on. Anyway I watched Steve from afar last night at a Manchester Comedy Festival show at Frog & Bucket... He turned me into a giggling girl with the funny jokes he made with his cute British accent (seriously ladies, it's hot) about the perks (or not) of going to jail for illegally copying harry potter dvd's. Although I couldn't understand a vast majority of what he said on account of his super fast paced speaking skills but I quickly caught on and found it all quite humorous. He's very witty. That's hot as well. It was a good show and I would definitely see him again.

Simon Degroot

Ok so I caught onto Simon Degroot about two years ago. He is a local Brisbane artist rapidly emerging onto the art scene and doing very very well. I first noticed his paintings on various electrical boxes around the CBD and when a friend told me who this "Simon" was that signed his name on these boxes I had to know more.

To cut a long story short I found some of Simon's work online, contacted the fellow and decided I'd go around to his studio with my mother and art curator aunty to check it out in the flesh (or canvas.. whatever). I liked his work so much I had to have it. I am now the proud owner of two pieces and my mother who quite liked him bought one. The family home now showcases three in total and they've definitely lived up our living space... We boast every time someone comes in and discuss the works. Dad's not a fan but he's a bit more old fashioned - likes the more realistic / formal works (landscapes, portraits etc). Anyway, hopefully I can have a few more Simon Degroots one day. I can't believe (well I can, he's brilliant) how many are selling - his website has "sold" under nearly every painting up. This man is definitely going to be big so if you want to get involved do so FAST.

Ah don't you love it when you flick through your ipod and you find an album you haven't listened to in a while (Hot Chip: The Warning)... All of a sudden track 11 "No Fit State" comes on (let's be honest - didn't think I'd make it through to track 11... usually only listen to the first three). And it gets going and all of a sudden you're like "WOW! Why did I never get to this song? It's brilliant". I found joy as the nice little mix of electro pop vibrated through my brain. Definitely a good easy wake up song. It made me happy even as I stood in the highly annoying and overly crowded tram this morning.

Another day. But it's Friday - BRING ON THE WEEKEND BABY.

OK so I went shopping at Selfridges a while back in Manchester and have some grief. Sass & Bide marked up their basic skinny jean to like hundreds of pounds..... HELLO S&B you put those on sale in Brisbane for like 30 bucks. I'm upset (and a little envious that you can do so) and yes I know that it costs a bit to ship abroad and yes I know you want to uphold your nice little exclusive image but that's so unfair. A simple Australian girl like myself wants to buy your clothes but on account of the shit exchange rate and mark up in designer clothes ... I can't afford it. I now resort to Primark where you can for example (see below) get wellies for 8 quid. They're much more useful in the rain than soggy jeans anyway...

It's been a slow start in my fashion stakes... being in the design industry I think brings it to full frontal. You're comfronted by beautiful people every day. That usually can put an outfit together so well! I feel the need to attempt to become more stylish so i'm hitting up designers websites and checking out the worldwide talent. Absolutely loving Tavi the Style Rookie who is my inspiration. Can you believe i'm taking fashion tips from a 12 year old? She is totally brilliant though and I dig her style. Rookie? I dunno...

From Tavi the Style Rookie

So after reading Tavi's blog and others I decided that it was imperative I start up a new one. I just got the urge. I think it's like a new calling or something.. or an old calling getting louder.

It began with my first pair of wayfarers.
Made in Italy - Ray Ban Wayfarers.

They are (also) my inspiration. I think my mother may have had a pair in her chic cool 80s days... I love how fashion does the rounds.

Anyway so Ray Ban Wayfarers have become such iconic sunglasses that even the greatest stars have a pair. Rock stars, movie stars, fashion icons, fashionistas, men, women, teenagers, children... everybody who's anybody who's slightly interested in current trends and fashion has a pair. Sienna, Heath (RIP), Kate, Micha, LiLo, Nicole... even Paris (although I think she copied off Nicole) has a pair... If you're a true lover of this movement then you have a real pair. I myself was once given a pair of fake ones... they were okay for a festival where you don't want your glasses getting trashed but absolutely nothing beats the Italian make of REAL Wayfarers.
I don't think there is any other style of sunglasses that truely compares... Aviators (thank you Mr. Cruise) have come close - Ray Ban also famously invented those babies.

So yeh. My (late) jump into the fashion circuit started with the purchase of my very first tortise shell (sad I didn't go black but I'm blonde and it suits me better anyway) Ray Ban Wayfarers in none other than sunny Los Angeles. No regrets. My Wayfarers are hot and I definitely feel trendy in them.

So now that i've started to be a bit more experimental with fashion (thank you Manchester for helping me out here) lets see how I get on. And let's have a look at what inspires or dispises me along the way...
